Glen Moray Single Malt 16 ans Située dans la ville épiscopale d'Elgin, au Nord du Speyside, la distillerie Glen Moray a été mise en fonctionnement en 1897. La région environnante, le Laich Moray, est réputée de longue date pour la qualité de son orge, au point d'avoir été surnommée le "grenier de l'Ecosse". Par ailleurs, le Loch Lossie, sur les bords duquel est implantée la distillerie, offre une eau abondante et d'une grande pureté. La distillerie présente le plan carré typique d'une ferme des Highlands, avec les bâtiments de production répartis autour d'une cour intérieure. Elle a possédé des aires de maltage de l'orge jusqu'en 1958, puis un système de tambours fonctionnant avec une machine à vapeur (toujours existante), mais le maltage a été finalement abandonné à la fin des années 70. Après une période de fermeture entre 1910 et 1923, la distillerie est acquise alors par la société Macdonald and Muir Ltd qui la remet en fonctionnement. Des investissements conséquents seront réalisés après la Seconde Guerre Mondiale, permettant de doubler la capacité de production de Glen Moray, soit 4 alambics. La stabilité est une des caractéristiques de l'histoire de Glen Moray : les deux derniers dirigeants de la distillerie sont respectivement restés en poste pendant 47 ans et 44 ans. Quant à Macdonald and Muir, c'est l'une des dernières sociétés indépendantes de production de whisky écossais.

Located in the episcopal city of Elgin, north of Speyside, Glen Moray Distillery was put into operation in 1897. The region surrounding the Laich Moray, is long known for its quality barley, to the point of being nicknamed the "granary of Scotland."
